Ameera’s experience includes working on Wall Street, at Columbia University, the United Nations as well as the Abu Dhabi Government. Her professional experiences and international network enable her to build synergies across multiple projects and organizations.
She is the founder of Weyakum, meaning with you in Arabic, a nonprofit social enterprise that equips UAE youth with the skills necessary to realize their educational and professional aspirations. Weyakum’s impact was recognized by the United Nations in April 2017.
In 2018, she also founded another nonprofit social enterprise. Lahum is the UAE’s first thrift store that not only promotes sustainability by keeping textile out of landfills, but also uses the profits from sales to support underprivileged children’s education in the UAE by paying their tuition fees. In Arabic, Lahum means ‘for them’, as in ‘for the children’.
She serves on a number of boards and is an avid supporter of women and youth empowerment, sustainable development, tech4good and very passionate about promoting peaceful co-existence.
Ameera holds a Masters in International Affairs with a concentration in Sustainable Economic Development from Columbia University in New York. She currently serves as the President of the Columbia Alumni Association of the UAE. She is also a member of the Undergraduate Admissions Committee at the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Columbia University.
